THE POWER OF A DREAM
During 2003 I had a yearning of wanting to help in the community. To do something in the community and to help others less fortunate. While waiting in a fast food restaurant one day, I was looking on the notice board and found a small note inviting people to a meeting with a local Not For Profit Organisation - a LIONS CLUB. Now.....I had no idea what a Lions Club was, so I ring the telephone number on the note, and was invited to their next meeting, which was to be held at the local pub just down the road.
They turned out to be a friendly bunch of people and after going to several meetings, this looked like what I was wanting and I was invited to joined the Woodridge Kingston Lions Club.
After 3-4 years of service and serving on the board for 2 of those years, I still was not satisfied, wanting to be connected with a more diverse group of people. A friend told me about another Not For Profit group, the Ethnic Communities Council of Logan(ECCL).
I joined ECCL in 2006 just before their first KALEIDOSCOPE - a street festival. This is what I had been looking for. A multi-ethnic organisation - being involved with people from other countries.
Now being involved with ECCL maybe had some influence on the next stage of my life. Around August 2007, I received an e-mail from.....Africa!!!.....a young lady!!! Now...most of us have received at least 1 e-mail that's come from Africa, or Nigeria more likely, so I was a bit wary and decided to see where this would go. After several months of e-mails, and messaging this was looking more genuine. We both exchanged letters, and several phone calls over the next few months, and things was starting to get a bit more than casual with this stranger who contacted me and so I decided its time I meet this person.....
July 2008 I was off to Liberia, West Africa. I was met at the airport in Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia, by a local Lions Club member, and the young lady whom I had been communicating with for the past 12 months and traveled to Africa to meet for the first time.
We married on 16th August 2008 and on the next Wednesday, I had to leave and return home.
And this was the start of BUSHTUNE INTERNATIONAL .....
